4/20/09 Update:
After the flurry of activity to open the season - 4 races in two weeks, at Roebling Road, Daytona, and Jennings GP - it's been over a month and a half without any two wheel terror going on. I'm going into withdrawals. I hope I still remember how to ride a race bike.
It has been a nice break in a few ways - it let me get some things done in the shop, relax a bit, work on the bike - but it's time to crank it up again. April 24-25 we'll be at the Nashville Superspeedway for a WERA event, contesting the 500GP and V1 classes on the 650 Triumph. After that, we have the WERA / AHRMA challenge at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham, Alabama, Memorial Day weekend. This is a great event, in that the sponsor puts up actual money for 1st / 2nd / 3rd places! Normally we run for the glory and some $5 plastic trophies.
In June, the schedule really heats up, with Road America and Grattan weekends with AHRMA and Road Atlanta with WERA.
During the down time, I've worked on a show bike, getting it ready for the 7th annual Spring Thaw Bike Show in Shelbyville, TN (now I just have to get it running!); fixed a number of issues on the race bike - exhaust relocation and repair, carburetion issues, seat repair, and a broken number plate bracket; and completely ignored spring cleaning and yard work, as usual.
I entered the race bike in the British Custom class at the bike show, with a nice display of the Triumph International Owner's Club trophy and my number 1 plates, and took 2nd place. There should be a blurb in the next Vintage Bike about the trophy & last year's race results with a pic - look for it.
Thanks for all the support, and hope to see everybody at the track.
Cheers, Chuck Skarsaune
